I should've done this earlier, but a big congratulations goes out to Steven Hall, author of The Raw Shark Texts, which has just been named winner of the Borders Original Voices award.
If you haven't read the book yet, I urge you to do so. I'm even in a link giving mood.
While I was working for Kennedy/Marshall, I was fortunate enough to read this book in a vacuum, i.e. prior to publication and knowing nothing at all about it. I remember reading a PDF of the manuscript on my computer at home and having one of those rare transformative experiences - the kind we all hope to have every time we sit down to read a book, go to the theater to watch a movie, or press play on a new record - that completely re-invigorated my love of the art form.
Later, after I wrote a now deleted blog about the book on MySpace that Steven somehow discovered, he and I began talking. I credit this as one of the great accomplishments of the internet: development exec/screenwriter in LA blogs about book, starts relationship with soon-to-be-published UK-based author.

This post is somewhat ruined by the fact that I was led to believe NIN frontman Trent Reznor was a fellow Cleveland boy (he isn't). However, GHOSTS I-IV is a new instrumental collection by the man, 36 tracks, available if you go to the NIN website (google search "nine inch nails ghosts" and it'll come right up - today hasn't been a day that's made me feel like providing a direct link).
Today Tim and I were lamenting how we couldn't find the right music to include in our new script...and then I happened to put Ghosts I on the iPod....
See you soon.
Aside from one conversation about act two of our next script, THIS WORLD WAS MADE FOR ENDING (working title), Tim and I took the day off. We used some of our extra time to re-watch Game 5 of last year's Eastern Conference Championship Series between the Cavs and the Pistons, which has been saved on our TiVo for almost 9 months. This photo is of LeBron's game winning shot in the second overtime of that game.
Sometimes it's good to take some time out, experience some greatness, and hope that it inspires more greatness.
